Montargis - Paris Heart of France
This one week tour starts in Montargis in central France and ends in thriving Paris. It offers a combination of history, culture, nature and agreeable rides in a varied countryside.
You will bike in a historically very interesting part of France and will visit the palace Fontainebleau and its vast forest. The tour is not only historically, but also culturally interesting. It leads you along famous painters' villages like Barbizon and Moret-sur-Loing where Alfred Sisley lived and painted.
Character of the tour
The tour is most of the time in slightly sloping countryside with occasionally some steeper hills. Daily average distance of 40 - 45 Km, or 4 to max. 5 hrs. by bike.
This is a one week tour and can easily be fitted into your other holiday plans. Montargis has excellent railway connections with Paris to continue your trip in Europe.
Day 1 Saturday, Montargis. Embarkation and bike tour in the afternoon.
Day 2 Sunday, Montargis-Néronville. Nice tour in a large foresteast of Montargis. Visit of Ferrières (abbey) and Dordives (glass museum), then Néronville, near the small town of Château- Landon.
Day 3 Monday, Néronville – Nemours. Countryroads to Nemours. Highlights: covered market of Egreville and the prehistoric museum of Nemours, a small town on the river Loing.
Day 4 Tuesday, Nemours – St. Mammès. Nemours to St. Mammès, where the Loing and the Seine rivers meet. Ride along number of famous rock formations in a forest region. Visit of Moret-sur-Loing, famous for the painter Alfred Sisley.
Day 5 Wednesday, St. Mammès – Melun. Getting near Paris there are many castles used by French kings and nobility. Visit of Fontainebleau.Then a visit to the 19th-century artists village of Barbizon.
Day 6 Thursday, Melun – Evry. Visit to either Château Vaux-le-Vicomte (17th century castle with gardens in French style) and the impressive medieval castle of Blandy-les-Tours.
Day 7 Friday. Arrival Paris. Entering Paris on the barge along the Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower.
Dag 8 Saturday. Paris. After breakfast the tour ends
